HP calls their new Reverb G2 VR headset ‘a headset that adjusts to you'.
While that sounds great, it does not seem to offer anything new compared to the competition.
In this Reverb G2 review we'll take a close look at what the new VR headset has to offer.

At first glance I have to say I'm not overly impressed with the specs.
I'm not sure if we would consider this a good buy at $599 as only a relatively high resolution seem to be the selling point.
Especially with the META Quest 2 being available at half the price!
So let's see what other specs this new headset has to offer to justify the $599 dollars.
In Europe you're looking at a 700 euro price tag. Which is 840 dollars at the time of writing.
Of course with the many super high resolution VR porn movies – 6K, 8K – coming out you want a headset that runs those movies well.
The Reverb G2 is made collaboration with Valve and Microsoft.
So one can expect something well built.

With new VR headsets coming out without cables lately it's important to realize that this headset requires you to sit and be attached to your PC through the 6 meter cable.
The Reverb G2 has a nice LCD screen. It's bright. But it lacks the colors of OLED screens which some other headsets have.
I‘m not going to say one if better than the other. it's a choice you have to make for yourself.
Resolution wise we're looking at something really nice though.
2160×2160 per eye is quite high and is perfect for HD VR porn scenes.
Sites like VR Banger (review) and WankzVR (review) bring out a lot a lot of super high resolution videos lately.
We're talking about 5K, 6K and up to 8K VR porn movies. Imagine how that looks if you can actually watch them at these resolutions.
But keep in mind for the high end stuff it's really recommended to have at least a RTX 1080 video card in your computer. And a recent I7 CPU wouldn't hurt either.
If you have an older computer with an outdated video card then don't worry. You can still watch VR porn movies.
All the top sites offer many download options for less powerful headsets and computers.
But of course it doesn't make much sense in the first place to buy a VR headset if you can't properly run it.

The Reverb G2 headset features off-ear speakers. This system is really immersive because it gives you a sense of sound coming from different directions.
As these are developed with Valve's audio technology you know it will be good!
Both clear highs and deep bass. It works fine and you won't feel the need to grab another pair of headphones.

They are certainly better than the previous Reverb headset but I wouldn't consider them anything special.
They bring nothing new to the table.
Don't worry, they work fine but it's not exactly next-gen.
Tracking could use some work!
The headset has a total of 4 cameras. This means it tracks from within the headset. Compared to outside tracking like the HTC Vive for example.
The good thing is that 2 cameras are added to the side of the headset. So when you move your arms around when playing a game it can follow the trackers more easily. But if you move your arms too close to your body the set sometimes acts a bit weird.
The camera still follows the controllers but it introduces a delay.
I personally found this a tad annoying. And a reason why I prefer outside tracking instead.
And even worse, if you get really close to your body you lose tracking completely!
Of course not something you would worry about when watching VR porn haha. You wouldn't want to track those movements, do you 😉
But when it comes to things like playing games you really have to get used to it and avoid moving your controllers too close.
The HP Reverb G2 is a VR headset in the first place but it also supports Windows Mixed Reality.
Windows Mixed Reality is a mixed reality platform which came as a part of Windows 10.It provides augmented reality and mixed reality experiences with compatible VR headsets. In this case the Reverb G2.
Not really interesting when it comes to VR porn. (At least not in 2023, who knows what they will come up with in the future.)
But it offers some nice features that a regular VR headset won't provide.

But maybe for you it justifies buying the Reverb
The Reverb comes as a nice plug and play bundle. Basically everything is included to get you up and running in no time.

As you can see there are no tracking stations included because the headset does the tracking from the inside. And while it's not always perfect it saves you a lot of installation hassles.
I find it hard to give a good verdict because the Reverb G2 is neither specially good or bad.
It might be exactly what you're looking for because of the resolution or you might consider it overpriced as it offers nothing special besides that.
Besides Windows Mixed Reality maybe, it that's something you would enjoy.
It might be because of the 2021 release of the Oculus Quest / Meta Quest 2 that this headset seems a bit expensive.
Not too long ago 600 dollars would be a fair price but with the Quest 2 priced at 300, the Reverb 2 just seems slightly overpriced.
So I'm simply not going to advise if you should buy this or not. I will only say if a high resolution is your number one priority and you have the budget for it then it certainly is a good buy!
